Embrace Rejection and Humiliation

CHOOSE HUMILIATION TODAY
I was going through my office supply closet the other day when I came across a bright sheet of orange copy paper that had written on it a quote from Betty Furness, American consumer advocate and journalist. After reading it I quickly taped it up on my wall right next to my goals and the picture of my compelling vision.

Here is what she said: “When you want something, go back and go back and go back, and don’t take no for an answer. And when rejection comes, don’t take it personally. It goes with the territory. Expose yourself to as much humiliation as you can bear, then go home and go do it all again tomorrow.” Betty was not a direct seller, however like us she did have dreams, ambitions and wanted to make a contribution to others. When was the last time you said okay – I am going to expose myself to as much humiliation as possible in order to build my business?

I shared this quote last week with one of my Business Breakthrough Coaching Program participants.
She decided after our discussion that she was going to get herself out to three events this week, introduce herself to people she did not know at each event and talk to them about her business. She felt that this action opened her up to humiliation, and while uncomfortable, she embraced the idea.

As a result she booked two shows, met three more potential hostesses, met a strong strategic alliance partner, invited ten people to her next open house. Four are coming for sure and bringing guests and one woman is very interested in joining her business.

In all this she experienced zero humiliation. Sure, she was a little nervous at first, introducing herself to strangers. The next time, though, it will be easier for her.

What have you been putting off because you feel you risk humiliation or rejection or even a little uneasiness. What could you decide right now to do to build your business?

Get out there, be willing to humiliate yourself, be open to rejection and when you do, you will find your days sprinkled with treasures that only those willing to experience humiliation would reap.
