Networking Know How – How to Make Your Connections Count

By Caterina Rando · Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 · No Comments »

Weeks after meeting a travel consultant at an event, I received a huge packet of promotional material in the mail. This costly packet was sent without a hello note, no business card and no follow-up call. What a waste of paper, postage and energy! Attractive, innovative marketing materials are far less important than a smile and a handshake.

I attribute my professional success as a business coach and professional speaker to the people that know me, like me and trust me — the people in my sphere of influence. These people are my friends, my clients, my vendors, members of groups I belong to, and anyone else I have ever met that I maintain contact with.  To learn more about how to create and maintain a large sphere of influence, read this helpful piece: http://www.attractclientswithease.com/articles/networkingknowhow.htm

Add Biz Journal Logo Don’t Forget, Networking 2.0 – From Contacts to Contracts, presented by the Silicon Valley/ San Jose Business Journal takes place on Wednesday, March 21st from 9am-12pm. For more information, and to register, visit: http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/event/67091

Guest Blog from Deborah Boland

I want to share these great tips my good friend Deborah Boland provided on how to create a superstar headshot.

5 Simple Tips to Create a Superstar Headshot

Want more speaking gigs and wondering why you are not getting them? Maybe your headshot is standing in the way of your success. If you want a photo that will make you stand out from the crowd check out these 5 simple Tips to create a superstar headshot!

1. Get a Professional Headshot

Too many people have their photo taken in front of a white wall or outside in front of a tree. This looks amateur. You need to hire a professional photographer to take your picture inside a studio with flattering lighting to get a headshot that communicates star power.

2. Shoot from above

For one of your shots, try sitting down  low and have the photographer get up on a small ladder and shoot down at you. This might sound strange and feel even stranger while it’s happening, but it looking up makes you lift up your chin, causing your eyes to look large and wide. This makes for an especially flattering shot.

3. Don’t put your hands in the shot

There is nothing more cheesy than the tired old pose of one hand placed delicately under your chin. Keep your hands out of the shot, so the focus is on your face, for a headshot that lets your personality shine through.

4. Have your make up applied by a professional

If you don’t wear make-up and think you don’t need to wear it for your photograph, you are fooling yourself.  (even men need a little powder).  A professional make-up artist understands photographic lighting and will make you look more energetic, more attractive and more confident, guaranteed.

5. Don’t Sit Still

While the photographer is shooting, try moving slightly after each snap of the shutter. Tilt your head a little, lift and lower your chin, angle your shoulders slightly. Keep trying new positions. A good photographer should  direct you to do these things, but if not, you want to make sure you keep your body fluid for a fresh, natural and warm (not posed) shot.

Stop Waiting for Ready

By Caterina Rando · Thursday, January 26th, 2012 · No Comments »

Entrepreneur ExtraordinaireThis is an excerpt from our upcoming book Entrepreneur Extraordinaire that will be out soon. My chapter is on Business Building Busters To Cast Aside to Ensure Your Success.

Does this sound like you? I have a talented, gifted, gracious, smart client who is frequently waiting until everything is totally figured out as in a course being 1005 written before it is marketed, also until everything is 100% done like every last tweak of a website and until everything is ideal like having 100% enrollment in a group before she starts anything. As a result of this consistent behavior it takes her forever to do anything and her business is not growing. Does any of that ring a bell for you?

Instead of waiting for ready do the opposite and be willing to create and learn as you go.
Maybe that sounds scary and I will not deny that it is, however learning and creating as you go is you being in forward motion. Waiting for ready is staying in the same place and being stagnant while you get everything completed.

Let’s be very clear a successful business is in a constant state of stretching and reinventing and adjusting. You as the entrepreneur are best served by also be in a constant state of stretching, reinventing, adjusting and learning.

Ask yourself right now: Where are you waiting for ready and what is that costing you? Next question: what are you going to do about it? Be willing to be uncomfortable while you are creating, learning and growing is your key to a truly extraordinary business. I promise you will amaze yourself.Entrepreneur Extraordinaire

Happy New Year!-Make it Your Best Year Yet

By Caterina Rando · Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 · No Comments »

2012 Daily Inspiration CardEvery year I create a new, full color, daily inspiration card. I encourage you to download and post it right where you will see it in the morning to uplift and inspire you each day. I love the card we created last year so much that this year’s design is very similar. The message is new.

I wrote these words, keeping in mind that you would read them to yourself, to give yourself a boost and set yourself up for a great day. We can all do well to remind ourselves to be enthusiastic, bolder and to take a risk to achieve a goal.

Download this card and let it serve as a reminder of how powerful you are and all that is possible for you with each day.
